Cafe Volare is The brainchild Of Serge Coutet. A chef from club med and a mighty fine cook. He has a dif­fer­ent approach to busi­ness and has many ideas for the cafe and tests them out week by week find­ing out the taste of Toongab­bie and what the loc­als like. This is a more organic approach where the loc­als have decided on what Serge has put on his menu and the fit out of the shop.

The food

Serge being a chef has taken the qual­ity of the food in Toongab­bie to a whole new level. When you ask for a little salad on the side, it’s a salad you would expect to pay $10 at club med for, but he includes it in the meal price. You can eas­ily end up full for $10 think­ing you just spent $20. Just ask for the schnitzel that is not on the menu and you will soon find out what I mean, cer­tainly 5 star value for money.

The pizza is on at spe­cial times and he has even brought on a spe­cial pizza chef Con Aroyan just for this, pretty good and great value for money.

The Cof­fee

The cof­fee goes well with the break­fast menu, very strong and I find order­ing a tea is good after a meal here as he has a great selec­tion to choose from.

The best time to visit this place is early in the morn­ing when the rays of sun­shine are beam­ing into the café, you can choose from indoor or out­door dining.

He is also open late so the after­noon can be a good time too. Décor inside dis­play­ing some funky chan­deliers and big old comfy chairs.

If you feel like dessert you have come to the right place as he has Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and some unique Italian desserts that are to die for. I’m not just talk­ing it up, my wife sends me down on my day off work just to get the Tiram­isu. Unfor­tu­nately for me he had just sold out the day before but he has a wide selec­tion of other treats that are a must try.

The staff

What is good about Serge is that he is the owner and oper­ator and doesn’t skimp on the ser­vice. He maybe just one man but he is a man of many tal­ents and no mat­ter how many people are in the cafe at any given time he still man­ages to ser­vice them within a good time frame and every­one leaves smiling.

Serge is a great guy to talk to and because this café is nice, quiet and hid­den away, he is always good to have a chat. Is a no-nonsense type of guy, straight to the point and loves to see people enjoy­ing his food. I think the ser­vice is bet­ter than some pricy res­taur­ants I go to these days. The great thing he is there all the time so you don’t have to always learn a new person’s name every time you go there if you get my drift.

This is a great place to have meet­ings and gath­er­ings of let’s say 20 to 30 people at any given time just let Serge know in advance.

Here at Eld­ers Toongab­bie and Kings Langley we had our Christ­mas lunch here and every­one was sur­prised about the qual­ity of the food and the service.

Serge had only just recently taken over from the pre­vi­ous own­ers and the café was left a little run down.

Most people don’t dis­cover this place because of it’s loc­a­tion but I believe it works to it’s advant­age and that’s why he said “I didn’t want a cafe in a busy hustle and bustle loc­a­tion, I want people to feel relaxed and that they can escape from it all”.

Excepts all card types and doesn’t hold you to a min­imum trans­ac­tion. You can order online through menu log or through his website.

So don’t write this cafe off give it a try I think you be pleas­antly sur­prised and I’m sure you’ll become repeat cus­tom­ers, I know I did.
